Quilting inspiration does not get much more visual than on Instagram. Here we have rounded up our top six Instagrammers to inspire you – but we would encourage you to keep your eyes peeled for others, and then share them with us!

1. Emily Taylor

Fruit and Veg

Very much inspired by nature, with a love of beautiful fabric, Emily’s quilts are at once intricate and minimalistic. She regards “collage quilt-making as painting with fabric!

2. Bisa Butler

Wide shot group

The narrative quilts of Bisa are best defined in her own words, “My stories are told in the fabrics that I choose, the textures I combine, and the colors that create a whole new composition. My portraits tell stories that may have been forgotten over time.”

3. Paula Cochrane

Quilt on display

For an antique vibe, Paula’s quilts are reminiscent of yesteryear. Focusing on colours and designs from the late 1700s to mid-1800s requires elaborate cutting and complex piecing. The resulting secondary patterns are a feast for the eye.

4. Timna Tarr

Rabbit design

An in-demand teacher and speaker across the United States, Timna defines her work as, “about colour and small compositions. Each block in a quilt is made as to its own element, independent of the other blocks. After all of the blocks are constructed, my goal is to arrange the small compositions to play off each other and work together to create a larger whole”

5. Mathew Boudreaux

Custom mask

Also known as “Mister Domestic”, Mathew works in the pharmaceutical industry (specialising in oncology) by day, and turns out the most cheerful creations by night. We especially love his quilted facemask – a colourful departure from the dull reason we are wearing them.

6. Ann Harwell

Car in the Country

Using geometric, abstract lines to represent the natural world is what defines Ann’s work. Blending a modern look with a traditional craft at its best.
